


It is targeted to produce 5.8 million fingerlings from 5 hatchery camps of the Department of Fisheries in Kachin State for 2019-2020 financial year.
The program aims for boosting fishery resources in the State, according to the Head of the State Fisheries Department.
Head, Department of Fisheries (Kachin State), Win Myint Saw said “There are 5 Aqua Hatchery Camps in Kachin State and the main camps are Waingmaw and Bhamo. We have extended the camps in Indawgyi and Shwegu. We target to produce 5.8 million fingerlings in this year.”
In Kachin State, Waingmaw Hatchery Camp mainly produces the fingerlings and it has produced over 1.8 million fingerlings until May for 2019-2020 fiscal year and it also produces the seven types of fish species plus local species.
In-charge, Waingmaw Fish Breeding Camp, Aung Naing Oo said “We produce at least 7 types of fish species including variety of carp fish, annually. We have a plan to produce traditional fish species. We also plant fingerlings into Indawgyi Lake.”
The Department of Fisheries is planting fingerlings into creeks and rivers for increasing fish species, provides fish species to the breeders and also conducts trainings.
Head, Department of Fisheries (Kachin State), Win Myint Saw said “We are still needs in sufficiency of the fishery products in the state. The fish are still sent from Mandalay, Shwebo and Yangon to be sold in Myitkyina. For the development of fishery industry, we need to extend fish breeding ponds a lot and to breed fish in line with advanced technique.”
Moreover, the Department said they will put more efforts for exceeding incomes for the State through the fishery industry.
