Finland welcomes talks with Turkey over NATO

Finnish President SauliNiinisto said negotiations between Finland and Turkey regarding NATO membership have begun but it would be "difficult" for an agreement to be reached at a NATO summit in Madrid due later this month.

Speaking alongside European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, the finnish president said little progress was made during the first round of negotiations with Turkey in Brussels and he hopes negotiations will eventually succeed but could not give any timetable as to when this could happen.
