The ferry boat running plies on Wartan (Kili)-Dala route is being still increased by the Inland Water Transport (IWT) (Delta Division) at its press briefing on one year anniversary of route running on Thursday.

In order to reduce traffic congestions in Yangon city urban area, Inland Water Transport has been implementing for expansion of Wartan-Dala ferry boat plies of route since October 1st, 2018. After expansion of plies of the routes, the changes between the previous and present conditions can be seen significantly said IWT.

Deputy General Manager, IWT (Department of Transport), Win Ko Aung said “In the past, there were 9 plies carried around 270 cars a day. But after increasing the route with 15 plies, we can carry to and fro up to over 650 cars a day at present. At the time, the vehicles which will continue to Ayeyarwaddy region from Dala save about 2 hours of time. So, it is the significant growth and we will implement to run the more plies under the needs.”

At present, 3 ferry boats run over 15 plies a day from 5am to 7pm for the vehicles less than twelve tons and the fees range between 2,500 kyats and 6,000 kyats per vehicle. The IWT arranges the plies with very affordable fares for the people and implement the needs by reviewing the strengths and weaknesses.

Deputy General Manager, IWT (Department of Transport), Win Ko Aung said “We always review the strengths and the weaknesses every time. We implement the things in time what the urban needs and vessel maintenance for safety transportation as well as affordable fares and other sectors. And we will add more vessels in the route and overtime plies for ferry boat services.”

Normally, Wartan (Kili)-Dala ferry boat services have been expanding at present, the services are going to shut down completely after the construction of Yangon-Dala bridge but IWT added that rest vessels will use for the other service routes or bridge construction projects.
