Environmental Conservation: Efforts for forest conservation and reduction haze pollution

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi on May 6th, visited Namt Lway Forest Reserve in Kengtung Township of Shan State (east). During the visit, the Union Minister observed the thriving pine plantations and instructed for long term conservation.

On the 7th, the Union Minister held meetings in Kengtung and Mong Phyat to discuss measures on forest conservation, environmental conservation and reducing transboundary haze pollution and fire hotspots. The Union Minister discussed the importance of prevention measures against wildfires while working in cooperation with the neighbouring countries.

He called for cooperation of all concerned persons in order to hand down the legacy of cleaner environ and better climatic condition to the future generation. This was followed by presentations on the haze pollution and health impacts and benefits of forests as well as the screening of video clip on public awareness. He also inspected the firewood plantations in Tachileik and mining plot in Tarlay.
