







A workshop on meeting with elders was held in Yangon, Monday with an address by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine. At the event, the Union Minister said that the Ministry is working on opening Yeiktha-and-community-based and day care centers.
As the yeitktha-based service, issuance of establishing permit, providing cash assistance and technology are being undertaken to the Homes for the Aged that are established by volunteers and well-wishers.
The Union Minister called on the elders to give recommendations on the current undertakings and sharing experiences to be able to provide assistance while listening to the voices of elder persons at the workshop.
Later, the elders at the workshop discussed the topics on caring programs, the facts to be fulfilled in elder process and psychological affairs, prevention from diseases, regular income, food, living, social economy, culture and participation in religious associations in groups. The experts on elder subject reviewed in general on the discussions.
The Union Minister and party then attended a ceremony to honour students who are presented scholarship award for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic years from the Youth Training Schools held at the Girl’s Training School (Malikha).
After giving a speech, the Union Minister, the Region Social Affairs Minister and officials presented honourary awards to outstanding students. Students then entertained and the Union Minister presented prizes.
In the afternoon of that day, the Union Minister and party visited the office of Yangon Region Disaster Management Department and Central Warehouse and heard reports of official on natural disaster preparedness measures, awareness programs, opening of district/township offices and storage of 17 relief items for 10,000 households and fulfilled the needs.
The Union Minister and party then viewed around completed construction of 3-storey RC building of the office of Department of Disaster Management in Yangon.
