







Measures are being undertaken to inscribe the ancient Rakhine City of Mrauk-U on the UNESCO World Heritage list. For initial stage, the international experts invited to make field trips for the assessments. One month after submitting the final proposal for Mrauk-U to be listed as the World Heritage site, led by Italian expert of water resource management, departmental officials and CSOs made surveys.
The Director of Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Sittway) branch office said that, the Mrauk U area conducted defense system by using water in the past. As the defense capital, water was used in attack and military affairs. Before, Mrauk is not populous city and now it has densely population.
Measures have been achieved in the sufficient supply of water in the city with the evaluation of water resource management expert. Plans have been adopted to address the garbage problems and illegal squatting in Mrauk-U with the cooperation of Mrauk U Youth Association, NGOs, and INGOs. For listing Mrauk-U city in the world heritage list, public participating is very important and the locals need to work together with the relevant departments, the official said.
