The government is intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking which poses a threat to humanity and future generations. With tighter land route controls, drug gangs and terrorist groups, including the AA armed terrorist group in Rakhine State, are increasingly using waterways to transport drugs and fund terrorist activities and violence.
Authorities arrested 26 suspects, along with over 4,000 kg of ICE and 3,000 kg of ketamine, valued at more than 282 billion kyats between April 26 and May 11 at multiple locations in Ayeyawady, Tanintharyi, Yangon and Bago Regions.
According to suspect Nay Paing Lin @ Aung Naing Kywe, the AA group funds its operations through drug trafficking. The seized drugs were reportedly purchased from Ko Sai and Ko Tayoat @ Sai Aung Lu of Wan Hai Village, Loilem District, Shan State (South), destined for sale in Malaysia. Legal action continues against the arrested suspects, with efforts to capture two remaining fugitives. The public is urged to report drug trafficking information and the rewards will be awarded to those who provide information and assist in arrests.
