Disaster Reduction: Construction Progress of Shelters Discussed

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is construction the Shelters at regions and states where the high risk of natural disaster, with the allotted budget of national disaster management fund.

A coordination meeting on the ongoing projects of shelter was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday. UnionMinister Dr Thet Thet Khaing discussed that the projects have been suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19, obstacles in cash withdraw, high price of construction materials, less of skilled workers and security condition on the ground.

Among the 146shelters, 82have been undertaken by the ministry and 64by the region and state governments. It is learnt that 65shelters being undertaken by the ministry have completed construction and 17are under construction. Among the 64shelters, being undertaken by the region and state governments, 57have completed construction and 7are under construction. The concerned officials reported on the work progress and the Union Minister provided the requirements.
