Due to the consequences of climate change, the world countries are facing extreme weather patterns, causing losses of various infrastructures.
In Myanmar, over 466 billion kyat worth of public and private infrastructures have been damaged due to the recent floods, caused by the remnant of Typhoon Yagi during September. Likewise, Cyclone Mocha that hit Rakhine Coastal area in May 2023 led to the loss of over 534 billion kyat infrastructures.
The government has been providing assistance to the affected areas for rehabilitation purposes. As of 20th November 2024, more than 30 billion kyat assistance have been provided to the community affected by the floods. Rehabilitation measures are also underway with accelerated momentum under the guidance of the Head of State.
According to the statement by the National Disaster Management Committee on December 7th, over 1,500 basic education schools in the flood hit areas have been reopened within a month, along with the operation of hospitals and clinics for health care services. Damages of roads, railroads and bridges have been underway with completion of more than 73% of road damage, over 41% of damaged bridges and over 67% of damaged railroads.
In addition, more than 73% of damaged paddy fields have been replanted. Likewise, 99.99% of communication access have already been restored. Efforts are being made to complete all the rehabilitation works by 15th March 2025.
