National Disaster Management Committee held its meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win attended the meeting, in his capacity as the Committee Chairman. In his speech, the Vice Senior General emphasized the reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of powerful earthquake, which claimed over 3,700 deaths with more than 5,100 injured and 67 remained missing, along with the destruction of various infrastructures.

The Vice Senior General also praised the local and international assistance for relief and recovery efforts and timely distribution of the relief supplies. He added the assistance for the students and teachers who are going to retake the matriculation exams. He said plans are underway to provide over 39,000 houses by the government, depending on the condition of damages.

He also explained the plans for reoperation of MSME businesses, affected by the earthquake. The attendees reported on the efforts for ensuring security, rule of law and community peace in quake-hit areas, implementation of clearing damaged buildings, rehabilitation efforts in quake-hit areas, relocation of staff at the prefabricated houses and offices, and assistance for the affected communities, as well as the inspection at the damaged offices and staff housings and renovation works.
