Digital Literacy: Students Received Digital Literacy Training

Along with the welcoming of International Safer Internet Day taking place on 11th of February, the Telenor Digital School Program conclusion ceremony was held in Nay Pyi Taw, Monday.

Organized by Telenor Myanmar in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, KMD, Plan International and other partners, Telenor Digital School Program aimed to reduce inequalities by using safe internet with the basic computer skills among Basic Education students.

Over 100,000 Myanmar students were trained free digital literacy lessons through Telenor Digital School Program.

Director General, Department of Basic Education, Ko Lay Win said “Digital Literacy is essential for basic education students. Through this one-year program, we are really appreciated with over 100,000 students received training more than expected amount of students. We believe this program will bring much benefit for the school children.”

Through free offering program, students received basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, internet search, email and safe internet courses with qualified teachers among the 170 computer classrooms where at the nearest KMD and Telenor Lighthouses computer training centers across the country from November 2018 to October 2019.

This program is one of the activities under 2-year initiative of Digital Literacy, Online Safety and Resilience Project being conducted by Telenor Myanmar and Plan International under the guidance of Ministry of Education since 2019.

Director General, Department of Basic Education, Ko Lay Win said “Digital Literacy Training can support not only for country’s National Education Strategic Plan but for Socio-Economic Development of the country. So, we need to conduct digital literacy to be accessible for the school children. Based on Mid-Term Report of NESP 1, we are now planning to draw National Education Strategic Plan 2 (2022-2030). At the same time, Ministry of Education is going to conduct digital literacy trainings and activities in collaboration with these partner organizations.”

Under the partnership, Telenor Myanmar and Plan International organizations will also work with the Ministry of Education to integrate online safety digital modules into the government education curriculum to prepare youths for a digital Myanmar, it’s learnt.
