






The opening ceremony of the Development of School Libraries and Promoting Reading Habit Festival was held at No.1 Basic Education High School in Myaungmya Township on Friday with the attendance of Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and Ayeyawaddy Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win.
First, the Archway of the festival was formally opened by cutting ceremonial ribbons and it was followed by celebriting second segment of the festival at the hall of the school. Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn in his capacity as Chairman of Myanmar Libraries Development Cooperation Committee said that students must be nurtured to become qualified generation of the country.
He added that nurturing reading habit since young could help provide knowledge. He called for collaborative efforts of all concerned persons to accelerate good reading habit through organizing reading habit festivals.
During the event, 5 sets of DTH Disc and 15 sets of DVB T2 Set Top Box were provided to Basic Education High School and Middle Schools in Myaungmya Township and 15 million kyats cash assistance for construction of a library.
Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win also made a speech saying that Myaungmya Township is one of the cities where experts in education, health, agricultural and livestock breeding industries turn out. He added that organizing the festival on promoting reading habit will accelerate these achievement of the city.
This was followed by provision of over 6,400 books for 323 village libraries in Ayeyawaddy Region. After enjoying performance by the students, writer MaungHlaingThit (Chit SayaMyay) made discussion with the title “Myaungmya Heart”.
After the ceremony, the Union Minister and Chief Minister viewed around the display of books, departmental galleries, and photo booths, as well as the competitions on story-telling, essay, painting, quiz, impromptu and games programmes.
