Debris after Polish bus crash in Hungary kills 12

Debris remained at the scene after a bus carrying Polish tourists crashed on Sunday on Hungary’s M3 motorway near Mezokeresztes, about 140km east of Budapest, killing 12 people and seriously injuring 10 others.

The bus, travelling from Serbia to Poland with 57 passengers and two drivers, veered into a ditch and overturned. Eleven people died at the scene and one later died in hospital, while 37 others suffered minor injuries.Rescuers freed some trapped passengers through the windows. Police said the driver may have fallen asleep and was taken into custody. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said a special aircraft carrying medical teams and Foreign Ministry representatives would be sent to Hungary.
