Crackdown on Online Frauds: 31 illegal immigrants detained on May 20

Through the border routes, including those from neighboring countries such as Thailand, foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally and committed crimes, including online gambling and online fraud, in Mae Htaw Thalay (KK Park) and Kyaukhat regions in Myawaddy Township of Kayin State have been identified and systematically deported.

On May 20, 31 foreign nationals including one Korean, 7 Nigerians, 10 Indians, one Russian, 12 Filipinos, were deported to their respective countries through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2, in accordance with legal procedures and in the spirit of humanitarian support and goodwill between nations. Initially, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Kayin State and officials reviewed the completeness and accuracy of records and information and provided necessary recommendations.

Subsequently, the deportation ceremony continued, attended by Deputy Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Kayin State and officials, diplomatic representatives from the embassies of respective countries and officials from the Immigration Department of Tak District, Thailand. Myanmar officials systematically handed over the relevant documents for the deportation to the responsible officials from the respective countries.

From January 30 to May 20, 2025, a total of 9,099 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally were identified and detained. Among them, 8469 were systematically deported to their respective countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures, while the remaining 630 foreign nationals are ready to be deported.

These individuals are being well-managed and cared for. The government is actively working to identify and apprehend individuals involved in online scams, as well as foreign nationals orchestrating such activities from behind the scenes, in order to take swift and decisive action. Additionally, the government is working collaboratively and deporting those who involve in these activities to their respective countries systematically.
