COVID-19 Surveillance: MoHs: Two Confirmed Cases Found In Myanmar On 23rd March

The two confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been found in Myanmar, according to the news release of the Ministry of Health and Sports, issued at 11:45 pm Myanmar standard time of 23rd March 2020.

According to the news release of the Ministry, the confirmed cases were found in a 36-year-old man from Tiddim of Chin State who arrived in Myanmar from America on 13th March 2020 and another one is from a 26-year-old Myanmar man who came back from England on 22nd March. They are now quarantined in the isolations of Tiddim Township General Hospital and Waibargi Specialist Hospital.

In regard with the situtaiton of COVID-19 in Myanmar from 31st January to 23rd March 2020 at 12 noon released by the Ministry, there are 212 patients under surveillance and 2 suspected cases, altogether 214.

The situations of PUI and suspected cases in the respective hospitals of Regions and States are 88 in Yangon Region, 37 in Mandalay Region, 30 in Shan State and 59 in other States and Regions, altogether, 214.

Concerning the hospital quarantine, there are 273 at the respective hospitals of Regions and States. These are: 126 in South Okkalapa Maternal and Child Hospital, 67 in Kandaw Nadi hospital in Mandalay, 54 in Wai Bargi Specialist Hospital, 26 in other region and State hospitals.

There are 170 who have been discharged from the hospital after 14-day quarantine.

According to the situation report of the World Health Organization (WHO) as of 23rd March 2020, the coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 186 countries around the world and there were over 332, 000 confirmed with 40,788 new cases and more than 14,000 deaths globally.

In the western pacific region, there are more than 95,000 confirmed cases with 3,473 deaths. In the European Region, there are over 171,000 confirmed with more than 8,700 deaths. In South-East Asia Region, there are 1,776 confirmed cases and 58 deaths.

In Eastern Mediterranean Region, there are over 25,300 confirmed and 1, 741 deaths. There are more than 37,000 confirmed cases and 465 deaths in Region of the Americas. In African Region, there are 990 confirmed and 23 deaths.

According to the report, China tops at the list in the confirmed cases with more than 81,000 with 103 new cases and 3,276 deaths. But, the total death rate of Italy is higher than China with 5,476 and over 59,000 confirmed cases.
