The Ministry of Health is continuously conducting “COVID-19 Molecular Disease Surveillance”, and releasing real-time information on the detection of COVID-19 cases including SARS CoV-2 Variant Omicron from those who return by the Commercial Flight and Relief Flight, and via border checkpoints.
The suspected 32 laboratory samples of COVID-19 virus of the positive cases were sent to the Department of Medical Research on 1st August, and the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron BA.2.75 was found in two laboratory samples, BA.2.76 in one laboratory sample and BA. 5 in 28 laboratory samples.
A total of 25 patients of which 2 patients with Omicron BA.2.75, one patient with BA.4 and 22 with BA.5 subvariants are Myanmar citizens, who have returned from foreign countries. The remaining 7 patients, one with BA.2.76 and 6 with BA.5 are from local transmission.
They all have been provided treatment in isolation since they tested positive for COVID-19, and are in good condition. According to the findings of international countries, the Omicron variants cause less severe illness and fewer deaths among those who are fully vaccinated.
Therefore, the ministry is stepping up the COVID-19 disease monitoring and control activities plus disease prevention, control and treatment activities.
