They also discussed efforts by Myanmar and Thailand to address their growing energy demands through bilateral cooperation, the increasing importance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner and more compact energy source during the global energy transition, and the possibility of transporting LNG from Russia to Myanmar and sharing it with Thailand to help address the energy needs of both Myanmar and Thailand.
The meetings also covered the possibility of constructing an LNG terminal in the Dawei area by utilizing the existing infrastructure, including natural gas pipelines connecting the Dawei area with other parts of Myanmar and Thailand.
They also discussed the fact that Myanmar and Russia have already signed an MoU on the export of petroleum products, including LNG, to Myanmar, while Myanmar and Thailand are expected to sign an MoU on cooperation in the electric power and energy sectors in the near future.
