


Spreading the news on the closure of the markets under the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) in Yangon Region due to COVID-19 is rumour, according to the Markets Department of YCDC. There is no plan to close all markets and there is no instruction on about this, the Deputy Director of the Markets Department of YCDC said.
The Department also said that precautionary measures such as temperature screening and sanitizing programs have been conducted at 48 markets as of 16 March in order to prevent coronavirus disease. Moreover, health awareness on wearing masks, washing hands with sanitizer and setting up vinyl posters have been conducted at the meat markets including poultry market as the prevention of the disease.
There are a total of 184 markets under the YCDC in Yangon Region. The temperature screening and sanitizing programs are being conducted at the markets that are set at A-stage and B-stage.
Plans are underway to distribute the thermal screening equipments and hand gels to other remaining markets, according to the Markets Department of YCDC.
