For the emergence of clean government and good governance, the Anti-Corruption Law was promulgated on 7th August 2013 and the Anti-Corruption Commission was formed in 2014.
In oder to take actions against the losses of the state not only briberies and corruptions, the 4th amendment law on Anti-Corruption was enacted on 21st June 2018 and if briberies but also the state losses happened, actions were taken line with section 3(a)(2) of the law. In the time of previous government, there were a lot of news about corruption.
However, there were only 3 cases that were prosecuted with the state losses from 2019 to 31st January 2021 due to the weakness in investigation and action. Only the losses of 20 million Kyats and over 255,930 Euros were identified and taken actions. After assuming the state duties by the State Administrtion Council, the corruption cases have been verified and exposed based on the complaints from 1st February 2021 to 31st July 2022.
Out of 186 felonies and 45 general criminal cases that were prosecuted, there were 108 cases that lost the state finance due to the government projects covered in bribery cases, construction tasks, violation of finance rules and regulations on the region and state development tasks, failure to comply with the terms of the agreement signed with the state, violation of the existing law, rules and regulations, failure to follow orders and instructions, seeking the own interests, misusing the state's farmland by the former Union Government Ministries, people who have been in political positions from the region and state governments and those who have authority.
The state lost 259,670 million kyats and over 13,326 million US dollars. Due to the corruptions and briberies, losses were happened in administrative, economic and social sectors due to the losses and waste of the state funds, lack of efficiency and accuracy in allocating funds for public interest, loss of natural resources, not to manage effectively in farmland, loss of the fundamental rights by the people and hindering local and foreign investments.
