
Ministry of Health and Sports confirmed two Coronavirus cases late Monday. A 36-year-old male Myanmar National who returned from the U.S. by air and a 26-year-old male Myanmar National who returned from the UK by air tested positive for Coronavirus.
The 36-year-old man with an American green card from Tiddim of Chin State arrived in Myanmar on the 13th of March. He developed high fever on the 19th of March and sought medical treatment at Population Services International. He was transferred to Tiddim Township General Hospital on the 21st of March and was quarantined in isolation.
He did not exhibit symptoms of coughing or respiratory issues. A lab specimen was obtained on the 22nd of March and sent to the National Health Laboratory (Yangon) and the lab result on the 23rd of March showed he has COVID-19 disease.
Regarding another case, the 26-year-old man arrived at Yangon International Airport on the 22nd of March and was quarantined at the Public Health Field Training Center in Hlegu Township on the same day and later transferred to Dhammaduta Zaytawun Tawya Chekindayama Monastery quarantine site in Hmawbi Township in the evening.
The patient had not exhibited symptoms of high fever or respiratory issues since his return. However, his lab result on the 23rd of March showed that he has COVID-19 disease. He has been transferred to Waibargi Specialist Hospital in the evening of the 23rd of March.
Their lab specimens will be sent to WHO’s designated laboratory on the 24th of March for approval. Investigation is ongoing on history of people who have been in contact with these two patients and systematic quarantines and examinations will be performed.
