Coordination meeting: Meeting on expansion of sunflower plantation held in Bago

The coordination meeting on the expansion of edible oil producing sunflower cultivation for the sufficient and surplus edible oil in the region was held at Tawwin Hantha meeting hall of the Bago Region Government Office in the morning on Friday.

First, the Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win said that the adequacy of cooking oil producing in the region was at 93% last year but this year the region has the 100% sufficiency of edible oil produced in the region as 2225 baskets of sunflower seeds were distributed to grow as subsidiary crop.

In coming year, over 85,000 acres of sunflower cultivation are targeted to reduce the foreign products and distribution of local produced edible oil to the local market. The educating the farmers, distribution of good variety of seeds, providing inputs and supplying irrigation water should be fulfilled.

Next, the members of agricultural supervisory committee reported the implementations of educating farmers, insurance of strong market for the crop, connecting direct link between the edible oil mill owners and farmers, accumulation of agricultural inputs and seeds in advance, status of providing agricultural machinery and compiling list of land plots on growing of sunflower. Then, the chief minister gave necessary guidelines.
