Coordination meeting: Meeting on acceleration of oil crops production held

The coordination meeting on acceleration of oil crops production for the sufficiency of local consumption was held at the Office No (15) in Nay Pyi Taw on 7th February and attended Union ministers Dr. Kan Zaw, U Min Naung, U Hla Moe, U Tun Ohn, Deputy Ministers, permanent secretary, Directors General and Managing Directors.

For enabling to collaborate the requirements for the domestic sufficiency with the edible oil output from the edible oil crops produced in Regions and States, the government formed a Committee for extended plantation of oil crops comprised of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, Ministry of Commerce in the leading role setting 9 work undertakings and the sunflower was designated as major crop in the expansion of oil crops plantation.

For the strengthening of oil crops production and participation of farmers across the country, starting this year, the plan was drawn for three oil crops including groundnut, sesame and sunflower, providing inputs equivalent to 3 lakhs of Kyat for per acre of groundnut plantation, 1.5 Lakh for sesame and 2 Lakhs for sunflower and the plan is being implemented by signing contract of crops deposit with the edible oil milling entrepreneurs.

In line with the guidance of the State Administration Council, as of 2025-2026 fiscal year, the implementation will be carried out for the sufficiency of domestic requirement with the edible oil output from the domestic oil crops. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation discussed the special plans to be implemented for the high yielding of oil crops and sufficiency of domestic oil consumption in the meeting.

The Minister and committee members gave reviews and suggestions. The plan will be implemented with the collaboration of the Regions and States Governments, levels of staff officers of the department of Agriculture and oil crop farmers, it’s reported.
