Coordinating meeting: Sunflower cultivation to expand under contract farming system

A coordination meeting for the cultivation of sunflower with contract system in Yangon Region for 2022-2023 fiscal year under the Sunflower Cultivation Expansion Project was held at the Meeting Room (3) of Regional Government Office on June 23.

First of all, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein said that Myanmar is an agricultural based country and the oil crops such as groundnut, sesame, sunflower, mustard, canola etc. are being cultivated. To cultivate the sunflower to meet the target for the domestic consumption, the contract farming system that is the company and private entrepreneurs disbursed the capital and loan to the farmers and purchasing the crops when those are harvested. He urged the relevant departments to make joint efforts and the regional government will continue to provide assistance as needed.

 Next, Director of Yangon Region Department of Agriculture U Myint Swe explained the plans to expand sunflower cultivation by contract farming.

Then, Minister for Natural Resources U Zaw Win and participants explained the expansion of sunflower cultivation by contract farming.

After that, the Chief Minister coordinated necessaries and instructed to meet the demand for cooking oil in the region. He said that contract farming was a mutually beneficial business in order to increase the per capita income and improve the socio-economic life of the farmers.

The opening ceremony of the pedestrian bridges in Kandawgyi Natural Park situated in Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township was held in the morning on June 23rd at the entrance of Kandawgyi pedestrian Bridge at the intersection of Kan Yeik Thar Road and U Aung Myat Road and the Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee, Yangon (Mayor) U Bo Htay, deputy mayor U Nyi Nyi and Secretary U Nyunt Pe opened it by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein; Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brigadier General Win Myint Khaing; Region Ministers; YCDC Chairman (Mayor) U Bo Htay; And the Deputy Mayor; Secretary and committee members; Heads of Departments attended the ceremony.  The Prime Minister and party inspected the bridges by walking on it. The Head of Engineering Department (Roads and Bridges) of YCDC U Ko Ko Lin clarified the cleaning tasks in Kandawgyi Lake with heavy machinery.

With the aims at the public to be able to relax by walking on the pedestrian bridges in Kandawgyi Natural Park, to walk and do exercise for health, easy access to the parks within Kandawgyi Lake, Instead of the previous wooden pillars, the stronger and more modern Precast RC Piles (Driven Piles) are replaced, steel structure member UBs in the place of wooden floors were substituted by the Engineering Department (Roads and Bridges) of YCDC.There are 7 sidewalk bridges in Kandawgyi park and the total length of the bridge is 7,307 feet.

After that, the Chief Minister and party encouraged people doing physical exercise in Old Aquarium island, inspected landscaping activities by the Department of Parks and Sports Ground and gave necessary instructions.
