Yangon Children’s Hospital successfully performed a separation surgery on 2-year-and-5-month-old conjoined twin girls named Ma Kyar Nyo Thin and Ma Kyar Nyo Theint.

The surgery took place on June 11, and lasted 9 hours and 35 minutes. After the operation, both children were reported to be stable and in good condition, and they are currently being closely monitored in the intensive care unit. The twins were born in January 2024 at Mandalay Women’s Hospital and later transferred to Yangon Children’s Hospital for specialized care.

They had been under continuous medical supervision by a team of doctors from Yangon and Mandalay, including pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, and senior specialists. The surgery was carried out by a large team of Myanmar medical experts from multiple hospitals and medical universities, led by senior professors and specialists. Myanmar has now successfully completed 9 conjoined twin separation surgeries in Yangon and 3 in Mandalay, all performed by local medical teams without foreign experts.
