






A ceremony to commemorate the 16-day campaign to end violence against women was held this morning at the Khine Tha Zin Hall in Sittwe of Rakhine State. The event was attended by the Chief Minister U Htein Lin, and wife who is the Patron of Rakhine State Women's Affairs Committee, the Chief Justice of the Rakhine State High Court, members of the state government, departmental officials, members of the State Women's Committee, representatives of social organizations, and invited guests.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister U Htein Lin mentioned that the period from November 25 to December 10 each year is designated as the 16-day campaign to end violence against women. He explained that this global campaign was launched in 1991 by the Center for Women's Global Leadership as part of an international effort to combat gender-based violence. He also highlighted that violence against women and girls is one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the world. Furthermore, such violence is increasing in workplaces and online environments across different regions.
He stated that the United Nations has designated the 16-day campaign as a time for global action, and this year's slogan is "Towards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNITE to End Violence Against Women," emphasizing global efforts to end violence against women, in line with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.He called on all sectors to work together to ensure that women victims of violence can easily access the services they need when necessary, with the goal of reducing and ultimately eliminating violence against women.
Next, the Chairperson of the Rakhine State Women's Affairs Committee, Daw Hnin Zarchi Oo, provided a detailed explanation of the 16-day campaign to end violence against women and presented a video documenting the campaign for 2024.
Following this, the Chief Minister and officials, along with the members of the State Women's Committee, took commemorative photos and cordially greeted the attendees. The Chief Minister and officials then had a special lunch with police officers at No.(4) Security Police Headquarters’ dining hall.
After that, the Chief Minister provided a cash assistance of 85 million kyats to the police officers and engaged with them warmly.
