Colombian President Petro visits Cuba, stands for island’s sovereignty

Colombian President Gustavo Petro arrived in Havana on Friday, for his final international trip in office. He later met with Cuban counterpart Miguel Díaz-Canel to show solidarity with the island. The trip marks Petro's last official foreign journey just days before he hands over power to incoming President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella on August 7, 2026. The visit also serves as a parting endorsement of bilateral cooperation.
