Chinese president at ceremony marking Martyrs' Day

Chinese President Xi Jin Ping and other Chinese top leaders attended the ceremony for China's Martyr's Day on Friday, half a month ahead of a Communist Party summit through which Xi was expected to secure a third term in power.

The annual ceremony of Martyr's Day celebrated a day before National Day, and honors those who died fighting for the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Veterans, students and representatives of various walks of life, following Xi and other top officials, paid respects and laid chrysanthemums underneath the Monument of People's Heroes at the center of Tiananmen Square.
