Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for swift action from the international community to defeat COVID-19 as leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) set up an extraordinary summit to coordinate multilateral response to the pandemic on March 26. This is the first time for leaders of world's main economies and international organizations to have face-to-face negotiations via a video conference.

It is also the first video summit in the history of G20. Prior to the video conference, President Xi had had 26 phone talks with 22 leaders of foreign countries and international organizations. Of them 14 phone calls were with G20 leaders.

Meanwhile, China had tried its best to provide help to countries in dire need of medical support. Up to now, China has announced emergency aids to 89 countries and four international and regional organizations. The medical resources included reagents, masks and other equipment.
