Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast visits flood affected town of Penco

The powerful storm system struck central and southern Chile, causing severe destruction. President José Antonio Kast traveled to the hard-hit Biobío Region, and assessed the heavy damage. He also met with local residents in the coastal municipality of Penco, and emphasized a unified relief effort in providing emergency deployment.

He also noted the urgent need to exercise stricter authority regarding the eviction of informal settlements that sit directly in high-risk mudslide and flooding zones.
