








Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win together with officials attended a ceremony to commemorate 2023 World Wetlands Day held at the Moe Yun Gyi Wildlife Sanctuary in Bago Township on 2nd February.
First, the Region Chief Minister said that according to the geographical condition of the country, the Bago mountain range supports for the watershed areas of the Bago-Sittaung river basin and the Gulf of Muttama. The Region is abundant with rivers, creeks, lakes and dams.
It is also in the inland wetland area so it has a good ecosystem and is the main resource area for food security. Moe Yungyi lake is providing the locals in agriculture, livestock and fishery industries and it is also a region where water birds, migratory birds from the northern and eastern parts of the world and rain birds are inhabiting.
As the wetland areas contribute a lot to people and the environment, it is necessary to conduct extraction and conservation of water resources in balance, he said. Later, the Director General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation explained about holding of the World Wetlands Day 2023 and enjoyed an educative video on conservation of wetland areas.
The chief Minister and officials then presented prizes to the students who won in essay and painting competition in commemoration of the World Wetlands Day. Later, they viewed around Moe Yun Gyi lake by motorized boats and released reptiles into the lake.
