Celebrating Yoga Day: 11th International Day of Yoga in Nay Pyi Taw

The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the Maravijaya Buddha Park in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

Member of the State Administration Council General Nyo Saw, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo, deputy ministers, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur, and yoga enthusiasts attended the event. The Indian Ambassador and officials gave welcome remarks.

General Nyo Saw highlighted the importance of yoga for health and peace, noting that this was the second time the event was held at the Buddha Park under the peaceful environ of the Buddha image. Participants enjoyed screening of a video clip on yoga history and joined a group yoga demonstration led by an Indian instructor.

The Indian Ambassador also made cash donation for maintenance of the Buddha image. Attendees then offered alms, flowers and water to the Buddha Image, and planted a commemorative Gant Gaw tree in honor of the event.
