Cancer Treatment Center: MoH UM inspected construction site of NCTC

Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, accompanied by relevant officials, visited the construction site of the National Cancer Treatment Center located in Dagon Seikkan Township, Yangon Region, on the afternoon of July 26.

First, the Union Minister and officials inspected the construction site of the eight-story treatment building, gave necessary instructions to the responsible personnel, and discussed related matters.

Afterward, he met with specialist doctors and healthcare staff who were providing radiation therapy using three radiotherapy machines even on public holidays. He offered words of encouragement to them for their dedicated service.

The Union Minister then attended a meeting held in the conference room of the five-story treatment building, where Chief Engineer U Ko Ko Aye from the Department of Building under the Ministry of Construction gave a presentation on the progress of the project and future plans to make the hospital's surroundings pleasant and attractive.

In response, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in both treatment and construction. He stated that the hospital's environment should be made even more beautiful than typical hospitals, so that cancer patients can receive treatment in a peaceful and comforting setting. He urged medical professionals and engineers to cooperate and coordinate in achieving this vision. Professors, specialist doctors, and officials from the Department of Building also held discussions regarding hospital construction and the beautification of the surroundings.

Later, Deputy Director-General Dr. Kyi Lwin, who is in charge of the National Cancer Treatment Center, briefed attendees on the current status of radiation treatment being provided at the center. Professors and specialist doctors also presented the current operational status and needs. The Union Minister, along with the Director-General of the Department of Medical Services, coordinated and addressed those needs accordingly.

The National Cancer Treatment Center is being implemented under a national grant of over 32 billion kyats, with the construction of the eight-story treatment building and related works being undertaken by Special Building Task Force 1 of the Ministry of Construction. It is reported that the center currently provides radiation therapy to over 200–250 cancer patients per day using its three radiotherapy machines.
