The Ministry of Energy held a workshop on Enhancing Fertilizer Production Capability Through Technology in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.
Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin attended the workshop and gave an opening speech.
The meeting discussed ways and means for producing sufficient fertilizer needed for boosting production of crops in the country.
Currently, 5 state-owned fertilizers are operating to fulfill the needs to fertilizers for local demand.
Factory Manager, Yi YiKhin, No.2 Fertilizer Industry (Kyun Chaung) said "In Myanmar, there are 5 Urea Fertilizer Plants. The chemical waste from these plants were released after conducting the treatment process, so there are no side effects from these plants. Today’s workshop turns out many benefits. If we continued to make efforts, more fertilizer can be able to produce for the benefits of our country. "
The meeting also discussed to operate fertilizer plants with the use of alternative energy like coal-fired power instead of using natural gas.
Aung Myint, Myanmar Petrochemical Enterprise said "The main point of this workshop is producing fertilizer by using natural resources coalbeds, reducing the import of fertilizer, creating more job opportunities for locals and fulfilling the local demands with the use of our natural resources without relying on other countries. Currently, Tigit Coal-Powered Plant is supplying electricity by using coal power, and it can continue to operate for about 13 or 14 years. But we cannot rely only on this plant. So, my suggestion is to establish factory in places like Kalaywaand Mawlaik townships where abundant of coal resources can be found and to conduct research works for producing fertilizer. "
Director, Win Maung, Myanmar Oil & Gas Enterprise said "Being natural resources, the production of natural gas declines as time goes by. So, some fertilizer plants and other enterprises which are running with natural gas power stopped operating depending on the supply of natural gas. At present, natural gas is mainly distributing for the country’s electricity supply. And thus, we cannot spare it for operating fertilizer plants. "
One of the 5-point Road Map, laid down by the State Administration Council stated that “Continued efforts will be made to promote the State economy and enhance the socioeconomic situation of all people through expediting manufacturing businesses rooted in agriculture and livestock to benefit the entire national people.
In implementing this process, it needs to boost agriculture produces, and the agricultural inputs including fertilizer become important for achieving this goal.
