Bolivian presidential candidates officially register for May election

Major Bolivian political parties, including former president Evo Morales' Movement to Socialism (MAS), registered their candidates on Monday for May presidential elections. Morales is not running in the 2020 election, but he appointed former economy minister Luis Arce as the candidate of his MAS party.

Polls show MAS leading in a split field against a number of opposition parties. Also officially submitting their candidacies Monday were the parties of former president and now-candidate Carlos Mesa, as well as Bolivia's current caretaker leader, Jeanine Anez.
