
Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi virtually attended the 15th High Level Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) held in Chinese City of Kunming on October 12 with the theme of “Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”.
The Fifteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), the biggest biodiversity conference in a decade, is kicking off today. Hosted by China, the first phase takes place virtually from 11 to 15 October 2021 in the Chinese city of Kunming.
At the opening ceremony, the Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China H.E. Mr Huang Runqiu conducted as coordinator and the executive director of United Nations Environment Program Ms. Inger Anerson and secretary general of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Ms. Elizabeth MarumaMrema gave the opening remark.
At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed the implementation of 10 years project for sustainability of forests, restoration of degrading forests and ecosystem, conservation of biodiversity, uplifting of the socio-economic life of the rural community, mitigation of climate change and the 10 years project for the reestablishment of natural habitats of the wildlife with the state budget etc.
The ministers and representatives from the member countries of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), senior officials from the UN agencies and the representatives from the international organizations attended the meeting.
