Bilateral Relations: President meets with Laotian delegation

The Laotian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Thongsavan Phomvihane paid a courtesy call on President U Min Aung Hlaing at Presidential guest hall on Friday morning.

During the meeting, the President said the official visit reflected a comprehensive understanding on Myanmar’s political developments and would help strengthen relations between Myanmar and ASEAN. He stressed that his government was elected through the Hluttaw in accordance with the will of the people, urging ASEAN and regional countries to respect the choices of voters.

The President also highlighted his administration’s commitment to regional stability since taking office and pledged continued efforts to achieve lasting peace throughout his five-year term.

The President said Laos and Myanmar are brotherly neighboring countries and expressed confidence that the visit would strengthen bilateral ties.

The Laotian Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Myanmar on the successful conduct of the election and extended congratulations to the President on his election. He also conveyed an invitation from the Laotian President for an official state visit and reaffirmed Laos’ strong support for Myanmar’s elected government.

The two sides also discussed strengthening long-standing bilateral friendship and cooperation in political, economic, education, health, cultural and trade sectors. They cordially exchanged views on expanding trade through the Myanmar–Laos Friendship Bridge, enhancing people-to-people ties, promoting ASEAN cooperation, Myanmar’s democratic and peace-building efforts and providing mutual support in addressing shared challenges.
