In the Belarusian capital of Minsk, crowds of people took to the streets on Sunday in the latest weekly protest against President Alexander Lukashenko.
Lukashenko is the country’s authoritarian leader who won a sixth term in office in a disputed election earlier this year.

Demonstrators carrying red-and-white flags gathered in groups and marched down residential areas of the city, demanding Lukashenko's resignation. In several places, groups of protesters were led by people wearing Santa Claus costumes.

Nearly 170 people were detained in the protests, according to the Viasna human rights center.
