Battery Chargers for EVs: Over 150 chargers to be installed in 2023

Under the National Steering Committee for Development of Electric Vehicle Committee, 5 working committees have been formed to develop the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Myanmar. During the pilot project period, more than 150 battery charging stations to charge the Electric Vehicles will be built in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay as well as along the Yangon-Mandalay Highway from January to December this year.

Myat Mon Thein, Deputy General Manager, Ministry of Industry said "As the pilot projects, there will be 19 charging stations with over 100 chargers in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay as well as along the Yangon-Mandalay Highway. Also, about 51 battery chargers will be installed at 38 fuel stations of Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw areas. So, there will be over 150 battery chargers to charge the EVs this year."

The import of battery EVs is allowed with reduced taxation and more battery charging stations will be built for EVs on public roads and in major cities, it’s learnt.
