Speaking at the Multi-Hazard Early Warning Conference in Bali, Indonesia, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on Monday said that they need to do more, especially for the most vulnerable, to incorporate disaster risk in how they live, build, and invest.

She urged all those present from Government, the private sector, international organizations, and civil society to scale up efforts to reach global coverage of early warning systems within the next five years. She also witnessed a tsunami drill exercise in a local school. The site is one of three schools where students are trained for earthquake / tsunami evacuation from the school to a higher-floor in a safer building, under a UNDP-supported project funded by the Government of Japan. The 2022 Global Platform will provide a unique and timely opportunity to showcase the importance of international solidarity and cooperation, as well as to discuss ways to tackle underlying risk drivers both locally and globally.
