The Myanmar delegation that defended the country’s dignity and legal position at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands, returned to Yangon on Sunday.

The delegation was led by Union Minister at the President's Office (2) U Ko Ko Hlaing and Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney General Dr Thida Oo.

They were warmly welcomed at the airport by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, government officials, civil society organizations, monks, members of the public, artists, students, and youths. Supporters presented flower bouquets, waved national flags, and held posters to show their support. A welcoming ceremony was held at the airport, where attendees saluted the national flag and sang the national anthem.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing said the oral hearings at the ICJ marked the final and most important stage of the case. He explained that the Myanmar delegation worked tirelessly for nearly 20 days during the hearings and had spent about five years preparing to respond firmly and systematically to the case.

He added that the team presented strong legal arguments and comprehensive factual information in a timely manner. He also expressed gratitude to the Head of State, the inter-ministerial task force, Myanmar Embassy staff in Brussels, international legal teams, supporting ministries, media organizations, and especially the people of Myanmar for their strong and united support.

After the ceremony, the delegation departed the airport in a motorcade. Along the route, crowds continued to welcome and support the delegation by waving national flags and holding posters, showing unity and encouragement.
