




Organized by the Youth Affairs Committee of Mon State, a celebration and a ceremony of awarding for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held on November 26.
The event, which included a race and throwing competition for people with disabilities, took place at the Raminnya Sports Ground. The Chief Minister of Mon State, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, state government ministers, and other officials attended the event.
The competition featured male and female athletes participating in the 100-meter race and the men's 100-meter wheelchair race. After the events, athletes who won first, second, and third prizes were awarded trophies by the Chief Minister, government ministers, and other officials.
The Chief Minister congratulated and encouraged the award-winning athletes. Additionally, a ceremony to mark the 16-day campaign to end violence against women was held in Mawlamyaing Township of Mon State.
The ceremony, which took place at the State Hall, was attended by the Chief Minister of Mon State, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, state government ministers, officials concerned and invited guests. During the ceremony, the Chief Minister emphasized that violence against women remains a significant challenge.
He highlighted the serious consequences of violence, not only for the women who experience it but also for their families and communities. The Mon State government has set up a One Stop Women Support Center (OSWSC) in Mawlamyaing to provide temporary care for women victims of violence.
The government is also working on improving women's safety and their access to education and livelihood services.
The Chief Minister further stated that efforts are being made to prevent and address violence against women and girls through education, health, legal reforms, and other sectors. He called for increased resources, expertise, and action to improve the lives of women and girls in the state.
Following this, the Chief Minister and other officials watched a video clip related to the 16-day campaign to end violence against women, as well as a performance of the play “A Painting That Lost Its Color” by the Warm Hearts Group.
Lastly, the Chief Minister, Chief Justice of the State High Court, and officials toured the exhibition hall showcasing the 16-day campaign to end violence against women, which was set up inside the hall.
