Australians get ready for New Year's Eve party

Tens of thousands of people grabbed their spot on the foreshore of Sydney's famous harbour Saturday in preparation to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks and celebrate the start of 2023.

The gates of Sydney Opera House's perimeter opened at 9am for people to claim prime viewing points, while the Mrs Macquarie's Chair viewing site was expected to accommodate around 14,000 people.

One million people are expected to watch the Sydney fireworks on the foreshores of the harbour on Saturday evening. According to local media, about half a billion people are expected to watch the broadcast of the Sydney fireworks.
