The video-sharing app TikTok is suing the US government over a law that would ban the social media company in the United States unless it is sold by its Chinese parent. TikTok and its parent ByteDance filed a petition in a federal court in Washington DC on Tuesday to overturn the law.
The lawsuit said the legislation violates the US Constitution and its guarantee of freedom of speech. It also said the sale demanded by the law is not possible commercially, technologically or legally. US government officials and lawmakers said TikTok controlled by ByteDance poses a national security threat.
