The town of Onslow in Western Australia equaled the country's hottest day on record on Thursday, local media reported. The temperatures seared to 50.7 degrees Celsius (123.3 Fahrenheit).

It matched the high reached in the outback town of Oodnadatta in South Australia state in January 1960, according to reports. The heat was felt across Western Australia including in the town of Roebourne some 230 kilometres (143 miles) east of Onslow.
