Australia is facing concerns over the rise of 3D-printed "ghost guns," which are cheap, untraceable and often advertised on social media. These firearms, made from online blueprints or hybridized with parts of existing guns, pose a growing threat as they lack safety features and are increasingly used in crimes.

In 2023-24, Border Force seized 828 firearms and police believe homemade guns could soon surpass illegal imports. It is illegal to make or possess 3D-printed firearms or blueprints in Australia and a national task force has been formed to address the issue.
