146 members of PDF armed groups surrendered and returned to the legal fold together with weapons and ammunition. The group included 133 men and 13 women. Officials held ceremonies in Sagaing Region and handed the returnees back to their parents or guardians after signing agreements.
Authorities also collected surrendered weapons, including pistols, rifles, grenades, mines, and communication devices. Cash rewards and support worth millions of kyats were given for the surrendered weapons and to help the returnees restart their lives.
It is learnt that many of those who returned said they were forced to join armed groups, became unhappy with violence and internal abuses, and wanted to live peacefully again. Authorities also encouraged other members still in armed groups to contact local administrative offices, military camps, or police stations if they wish to return to the legal fold.
