Argentina's President Alberto Fernández received his first dose of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine on Thursday, after regulators approved its use for people over the age of 60. Fernández was immunized in his left arm by a nurse at the Posadas Hospital in Buenos Aires.
He is due to receive a second dose in 21 days. During the first stage of Argentina's vaccination campaign, which started last month, authorities will prioritize the immunization of health workers, members of the security forces, those affected with pre-existing diseases, teachers, and people over 60. Fernandez told health workers at the hospital that vaccinating them was a key priority. Argentina has bought more than 51 million vaccines from various sources including Russia, AstraZeneca and the United Nations' Covax scheme.
