Individuals seeking to establish political parties are submitting applications to the Union Election Commission (UEC), specifying the names of the parties they wish to form. As of to date, a total of 27 groups have submitted such applications.
Among them, the Rakhine Nationalities Party has been found to be in full compliance with the Political Parties Registration Law and by-laws. Therefore, the Commission has approved the party’s application to establish a political party as of June 9.
The Rakhine Nationalities Party, which has now received permission to form, is required to apply for official registration as a political party within 30 days from the date of approval, in accordance with Section 7 of the Political Parties Registration By-law.
To date, 17 political parties have been granted permission to establish. Among those, the New Chinland Congress (NCC), led by U Bwal Sain Lo, has submitted its application on June 9 to register as a political party under Section 7 of the Political Parties Registration By-law, within the required 30-day period from the date it received permission to form. Of the 16 political parties that have applied for registration, the Commission has approved 14. The remaining applications are still under review by the Union Election Commission.
