Agriculture Development :Extended cultivation implemented in KyaukMe Village

KyaukMe Village in Kamma Township of Magwe Region is striving for extended cultivation of seasonal crops by growing double and triple cropping with the use of irrigated water from PaDae Dam.

At present, implementations are underway on 100 acres farmlands situated in the irrigated areas.

Township Officer, Nyan Myint, Agriculture Department (Kamma), said " We are implementing with the cooperation of 122 local farmers to cultivate up to three times in the irrigated areas of Pa Dae Dam. We will grow Mung bean during the summer paddy cultivation season,and monsoon paddy in the rainy season. After that mung bean , black gram and winter sesame will be continuously cultivated. We are making efforts for the benefits of farmers."

There are over 56,200 acres of agriculture farmland in Kamma township and paddy, peanut, sesame, industrial crops and other crops are cultivated. Likewise, the Agriculture Department (Kamma) is distributing water from PaDae dam to cultivate summer paddy starting from 1st February.

Farmer, Than Kyaw Htay, Si Village (Kamma), said " I mainly cultivate paddy.The crop yield is 80 baskets per acre for monsoon paddy and 100 baskets for summer paddy. We cultivate Ma Naw Thu Kha paddy here."

This implementation of triple cropping is the first time for this year and previously, monsoon and summer paddy are used to cultivate in the irrigated areas. Plans are underway to cultivate winter sesame and beans including monsoon and summer paddy this year.
