The 113th Farmers’ Technology Discussion was held on June 18 at the Meiktila District Agriculture Department office in Mandalay Region.

The meeting focused on improving crop yields, especially for peanuts and sesame, to support domestic edible oil production and increase farmers’ income. A total of 153 farmers and officials attended in person, and over 100 participants joined online.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Ye Tint Tun said that increasing yield per acre is more important than expanding farmland. He noted that the gap between research yields and farmers’ actual yields is due to poor seed quality, weak soil and water management, pest and disease problems, and improper harvesting practices.

He also emphasized the need to share modern farming technologies with farmers and improve market connections, including cooperation with MSME businesses. Experts from agricultural research department presented methods to improve peanut and sesame production. Farmers asked questions about their farming difficulties, and officials provided answers and guidance.
